Full Time: Senior Director of Platform Engineering at GitHub in Remote - Canada or United States

GitHub is looking for a Senior Director to lead Platform Engineering within the Engineering organization.

The Platform Engineering group is responsible for crafting the API and systems our engineers, integrators, and partners build upon.

You will be leading a team that is changing how software development happens.

We are looking for someone with a real passion for mentoring, growing, and leading talented engineers.

You will build an environment for teams to be successful while assisting in leading product direction with Product Management.

Our Engineering organization is highly distributed and you should embrace an environment of asynchronous communication.

We expect you to have strong written communication skills and craft working relationships with coworkers in locations around the globe.


Be a highly technical, hands-on engineer and an effective people manager
Communicate throughout the entire company and drive engineering efforts
Lead and guide the creation of engineering processes
Design and influence technical strategy
Be a subject matter authority in the art of creating scalable hardened systems and resilient APIs
Provide professional growth for all members of your group
Represent the Platform team at a senior level


8+ years of relevant work experience, including hands-on technical management experience
Knowledge of and ability to teach engineering mastery including code review, owning code in production, testing
Extraordinary technical skills, preferably with experience building large web applications
Demonstrated ability to recruit and lead highly functional technical teams
Experience leading across the entire stack of a large application, including having detailed conversations about infrastructure/operational needs
Comfortable discussing overall technical strategy and tactical goals in the same discussion
